Each summer, thousands of people pour into the Marshall Area Farmer's Market to buy locally made produce and products. This year, one of our church's Community Groups sponsored a booth to give us greater exposure in the community. We had free candy and a simple game with prizes for the kids, and free literature, gospel tracts, and church pens for the adults. We met a number of new people and were able to give away a handful of literature packets.
We also got a pleasant surprise at the market: A sister church in our community recently closed their preschool, and they decided to donate all their children's books to Founders Library! Our church librarian is processing all the new volumes as I write, and they should be available soon.
Matt & Kendra Harmon, both from Grace Baptist Church, were married on Saturday, the 16th, at 1:00pm in Holland, MI. I was delighted to perform the ceremony (my third of the summer!), while my wife kept everything in order behind the scenes! Praying for our newest married couple as they seek to establish their home together here Marshall.
I try to update my blog on a weekly basis, but sometimes the busyness of life forces us to put some things on hold. Now that life is beginning to return to normal, I can look forward to resuming my posts.
This evening I made my way to city hall to open the Marshall City Council's monthly meeting in prayer. As I took my place, I was surprised to find one of my church members in attendance as well! He was there to learn more about the new "energy center" (a $1 billion project) being built in our city. I was also surprised to receive an email from him later in the evening with a picture of me offering that prayer. What a sneaky guy! I have included the picture above, and my prayer below.
Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. And we also pray for your blessing on our city, and upon each of its leaders. I ask that you would give each of them a holy fear of your name; that you would guide them in all the decisions that they make; that you would grant them a measure of your wisdom, that our city may prosper for years to come. Help them to serve you and others with integrity, fairness, and love. Grand them courage to stand for what is right, and to be good stewards of the resources entrusted to their care. And as they do so, Lord, let them receive the honor they are due. In the name of your son, the Lord Jesus Christ, we pray it. Amen.
