For more than a millennium, churches in the West have used organs to accompany the congregation during corporate worship. Grace Church maintains this tradition by including an organ in its "instrument mix" as well (along with other instruments including a piano, euphonium, flute, guitar, and more).
To celebrate the recent purchase of our new electronic pipe organ, we are holding a special concert on Monday, November 21st, from 7:00-8:00pm, featuring Dr. Heike Burghart Rice.
Dr. Rice began making music in church sitting next to her mother at the piano. She is passionate about bringing music of overflowing expression, animated by Scripture, to weekly corporate worship services through hymn singing, choral anthems, and vocal or instrumental solos. Her worship planning is informed by her wide range of musical experiences and education, including studies in organ, piano, oboe, and voice and participation in bands, orchestras, jazz ensembles, and choir. Dr. Burghart Rice is currently the Director of Music Ministries at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hinsdale, Illinois, where she plays organ and piano and directs the adult choir, praise band, and handbell choir.
Dr. Rice earned a Bachelor’s degree in organ from Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and a Master’s and Doctorate in organ from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music.
